Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Understand the key connection metrics that affect your online gaming experience. For competitive players, a stable connection is more important than raw internet speed. Here's a breakdown of what GN-GAMES measures in real time and what each result means for you.
What is Ping?
Ping is the time it takes for a data packet to travel from your computer to a game server and back. It's measured in milliseconds (ms). A lower ping is always better, as it means your actions are registered faster in the game.
- Excellent (0-30 ms): Ideal for competitive gaming. Your actions will feel instant.
- Good (31-60 ms): Very playable, with no noticeable delay for most games.
- Acceptable (61-100 ms): You might notice a slight delay, but it's generally fine for casual gaming.
- Poor (101-150 ms): A noticeable delay is present. It can be frustrating in fast-paced games.
- Very Poor (151+ ms): The game will feel sluggish and unresponsive, putting you at a significant disadvantage.
What is Jitter?
Jitter measures the variation in your ping over time. High jitter means your connection is unstable, causing inconsistent delays. This can result in stuttering, lag spikes, and a generally unpredictable gaming experience, even if your average ping is low.
- Excellent (0-3 ms): A very stable and consistent connection.
- Acceptable (4-7 ms): Minor inconsistencies, but unlikely to impact gameplay significantly.
- High (8-10 ms): You may experience occasional lag spikes.
- Poor (11+ ms): Your connection is very unstable, leading to frequent and disruptive lag spikes.
What is Packet Loss?
Packet Loss occurs when data packets traveling between your computer and the game server get lost along the way. Any amount of packet loss is bad for gaming. It can cause your character to teleport, shots not to register, and other strange in-game behavior.
- Perfect (0%): The ideal scenario. No data is being lost.
- Concerning (0.1% - 1%): Even a small amount of packet loss can cause noticeable issues in-game.
- Poor / Unplayable (1%+): The game will likely be unplayable, with severe and constant connection problems.
What is the 95th Percentile?
The 95th Percentile is a metric that shows your worst-case ping value, ignoring the absolute highest 5% of your ping spikes. It's a more realistic measure of your "bad" lag spikes than just looking at the maximum ping, which might be a rare, one-off event. If your 95th percentile ping is high, it means you have frequent, significant lag spikes.
